The Radio Academy is seeking two new Trustees to join its board. Expressions of interest are welcome from any member of The Radio Academy that would like to stand for election.
The Trustees are the vital governing body of The Radio Academy, who oversee the strategy and direction of its activity. They have overall responsibility for the governance and financial security of the charity. Trustees give their time on a voluntary basis and, in return, play a key role in shaping the industry and giving back.
Trustees serve a three-year term and are expected to play an active role, attending a minimum of six board meetings per year, by video conference or in-person in London. They should bring with them significant experience and understanding of the UK audio sector and meet the skills listed in the Trustee Role Description.

After you have read the role specification, applicants should prepare:

- a 500-word statement specifying why you would like to be a Trustee and what you feel you would offer as member of the board (this will be submitted to the panel for shortlisting)
- a 200-word statement outlining how you meet one or more of the specified skills we are looking for (see Trustee Role Description)
- a CV of no more than two pages
- a 100-word biog with a little about yourself and what you bring to the board, suitable for publication on our website (this will only be published if you are shortlisted for the Trustee elections)
- a photograph suitable for publication (this will only be published if you are shortlisted for the Trustee elections)

Questions Answered, about the election process
Why are there only two places? In 2021 The Board of Trustees decided to gradually reduce the overall size of the board. It made this decision in-line with common practice to make boards more efficient, more accountable, and more manageable. In 2025, two elected Trustees' terms are ending. There are now two new Trustees elected each year on a three-year term, making up a total of six places on the Board. The six elected Trustees then consider the need for additional co-opted members based on the current make-up of the Board.
Why is there a shortlisting process? The shortlisting process assesses each applicant against a set of criteria in the role description. This is best practice when selecting Trustees for a charity, to ensure every candidate has the requisite experience and expertise for the role. The board introduced this process in 2021, as there were concerns that previous years' ballots were unwieldy (sometimes with more than 30 candidates).
Who will be doing the shortlisting? A sub-committee of the Board of Trustees will be formed, consisting of a range of backgrounds across the public, commercial and independent audio sectors. The Managing Director of the Academy will be a non-voting member of the group, to support the process.
How have you decided what skills are needed? A skills audit was conducted of the current board of Trustees and analysed to understand what skills, knowledge and experience we have amongst current Trustees, and which areas we are still looking for more expertise to appropriately govern and support the charity to meet our charitable objectives and reflect our membership.
