My candidacy is routed in longstanding support and advocacy of The Academy, reflecting what I bring to help grow its reach and engagement. I have significant experience of the UK radio and audio sector and have had multiple leadership roles. I am strongly focused on engaging young people and under-served audiences. My passion for media with social purpose aligns with the Academy’s purposes around education and developing communities. I’d like to build contact with schools and develop the award and recognition processes for emerging talent. I would also speak up for ‘local’ having engaged with over 140 local radio stations.

The Radio Academy helped me get my first job in radio. From sitting on the Student Radio exec in 1999, to launching a production company last year I've worked in almost every corner of the industry both in the UK and overseas (Sirius XM (USA) & SCA (Australia). As a Trustee I hope I can represent the vast majority of members from first-hand experience.

I bring a passion for sustainability (running a net-zero company) and experience away from audio production with a background of senior (C-level) management in events and governance including two national governing bodies.

Jo’s production highlights include developing and executive producing The Human Subject for BBC Sounds and the chart-topping true crime series The Pitcairn Trials for Audio Always and Wondery. She led production on Different with Nicky Campbell, which won a bronze ARIA Impact Award in 2024. Jo has worked across the independent sector for companies such as Somethin’ Else, she was founder and former director of Manchester-based Sparklab Productions, and more recently Content Director at Audio Always.

Radio and audio mean the world to me. I will never tire of hearing a listener express the joy radio brings, the comfort after bereavement, the companionship through loneliness or the escape from their worries. I have seen first-hand the profound difference radio and audio makes to peoples’ lives every day. After 27 years I still wake up every morning looking forward to doing a job in an industry I love. I would bring this unfailing passion and experience to the Trustee board and use it to help shape the sector as a whole. One of my key drivers is helping those new to radio to flourish, particularly nurturing diverse talent and taking an active role in their development and I would make this a priority. Thank you for considering me.
