Foot In The Door
A day of training & connections

Keep an eye out here and on our newsletter for our next Foot In The Door, coming this summer!

Foot In the Door is a one-day event for people at entry and early career level in audio, to build skills development and open access to people and expertise, through training workshops and a facilitated speed-networking session. Foot In The Door takes place three times a year in different cities across the UK.

We're delighted to come to Belfast for our next event and will be partnering with the Queen's University Belfast student station Queen's Radio. Foot In The Door is generously supported by The Radio Academy’s partners:  BBC Sounds and Broadcast Bionics, with special thanks to Queen's University Belfast and Queen's Radio. Industry guests will include leaders and employers from the BBC, commercial sector, technology providers and independent production audio sector plus UK-wide presenters, content producers and managers.

The three-hour programme of training workshops and talks with national, regional and local audio industry leaders and practitioners will start shortly after midday, covering sessions on programme production, podcasting, social media, brand development, music radio, news and speech audio, imaging, and technology. Participants can choose from multiple session topics and will have plenty of time throughout the day to chat to others and share newly gained knowledge.

A highlight of the day is the 90 minute facilitated speed-networking session, where delegates meet a cross section of audio professionals to learn about opportunities and career paths available in different areas of audio. Each delegate gets the chance to talk to every expert, gaining tips and practical steps to get a foot in the door into the industry.

The event will close with an informal social event with our Belfast Branch, where Radio Academy Members are invited to join in and make connections over a drink.

Tickets cost £6 for Radio Academy Members, or £12 for non-members (this includes £5 off future membership). Tickets include hot drinks through the day and the first drink in the bar. It is free for Members to register to attend the social event only, if you are not a member and would like to attend the social only, then the price is £4 which includes your first drink.

Feedback from previous training events

"Great to have industry leaders, and a variety of people in the audience to meet and exchange tips."

"Was great to attend many insightful talks and hear from experts in this exciting industry."

"Yesterday was such an amazing and insightful day! Me and a few others who love all things audio went to Leeds for this event and it was one of the best experiences."

"Thank you to the industry guest speakers, The Radio Academy and Leeds Student Radio for organising such a helpful and engaging event."

"This was my first networking event and I was so nervous, especially since I went by myself. But once the panels started, I learned so many things. Then when we had the speedy networking, my confidence grew and hearing advice from those in the industry, was truly inspiring. Plus it was fun meeting everyone else that was there for the same reason as me, and I managed to get some new contacts! I would definitely be going to other events like this in the future and will be taking all the advice to heart."
