Tim Blackmore’s contribution to radio and audio will be recognised by the assembled industry at this year’s ARIAS, as he attends as The Radio Academy’s guest of honour.

Tim has been a leader in the UK radio industry for over 60 years. Working in radio his whole life, Tim’s career has spanned the BBC, commercial radio and independent production.

He helped launch Radio 1 in 1967, producing Tony Blackburn, Noel Edmonds and landmark documentary series The Story of Pop. He then joined London’s Capital Radio in 1977, becoming Head of Music and later Head of Programmes, before co-founding Unique (later UBC), one of the early pioneers in the independent audio sector.

Tim was also a key figure in the early days of The Radio Academy (including as its first Director), and was Chair of the Sony Awards committee for 13 years.

He will attend The ARIAS with his wife Margaret and family members, where his contribution to the industry and the Academy will be recognised as part of the ceremony.

Last year, Tim recorded a podcast special with the Radio Academy following his announcement that he has an inoperable brain tumour.
