The Radio Academy announces its mentoring programme cohort for 2024
The Radio Academy has revealed the list of Mentees and Mentors participating in this year’s Radio Academy Mentoring Programme - RAMP – including new BBC Sounds Audio Lab creators.
Twenty mentees from across the industry have been selected to receive six months of mentoring from an industry leader, peer support and, new for 2024, leadership training. The announcement follows a competitive selection process led by Chair of Judges Adele Cross, producer of BBC Radio 1Xtra Breakfast with Nadia Jae.
Furthermore, The Radio Academy and BBC have teamed up to announce the inclusion of BBC Sounds Audio Lab creators. Creators from the BBC Sounds Audio Lab Class of 2023 will be joining the 2024 RAMP cohort to continue their audio career development. BBC Sounds Audio Lab is a unique accelerator programme, backed by a comprehensive package of practical and professional training, designed to amplify the next-generation of podcasters and audio creators. The BBC Sounds Audio Lab podcast development programme has had great success supporting new talent, with creator Tommy Dixon winning Gold at the ARIAS last year for Best New Podcast.
24 RAMP mentees and mentors have been announced to participate in the industry development programme which starts at the end of February, with an induction event taking place in London.
RAMP is proudly supported by Broadcast Bionics. It is aimed at anyone working in any area of radio and audio, who has at least five years professional experience.
The Radio Academy Mentoring Programme is a personal and professional development initiative, which helps to build confidence for participants to take charge of and advance their own careers. The programme focuses on supporting those at mid-level in their audio and radio careers. At a point when many people face barriers to progression in their professional careers, RAMP aims to open access to industry leaders, expertise and support, addressing personal challenges and advancing equity in the industry.
Each mentee will benefit from confidential one-to-one mentoring sessions, as well as peer development and valuable leadership skills through a series of seminars and training workshops delivered by RAMP Lead Natasha Maw. Natasha is a former radio producer who has worked in commercial radio and the BBC, and is Programme Director of Leadership Development at Bayes Business School working with a number of organisations on developing leadership capability.
The mentees come from all fields of the industry including production, technical, presenting, journalism, management and digital.
