The Radio Academy Announces New Trustees for April 2025.
The Radio Academy has announced the appointment of new Trustees to its Board, following an election by its members, along with the appointment of additional co-opted Trustees bringing specialist expertise.
Samantha Moy and Ray Paul have been elected by members and will serve a three-year term from April 2025.
In addition, the Board has co-opted Nick Callaghan, who brings expertise in commercial strategy and sales, and Phil Maguire OBE, who has extensive experience in audio for social impact and charity leadership.
Helen Thomas, Chair of The Radio Academy Board of Trustees, said:

Each brings invaluable expertise and passion for audio, helping The Radio Academy to champion excellence and support the industry’s future. We also extend our deepest thanks to our outgoing Trustees for their dedication and contributions over the years."
Newly Appointed Trustees
Samantha Moy – Head of BBC Radio 6 Music
Under her leadership, 6 Music has reached record audience figures and earned back-to-back Station of the Year nominations at The Radio Academy ARIAS. Passionate about championing people, music, and radio, Samantha says:

I hope to bring a deep understanding of the business of broadcasting, a laser like strategic focus on audiences and a very real passion for music and its relationship with radio. It’s an honour to be joining the Board. I hope to do you proud!”
Ray Paul – Founder, The Playmaker Group
With over 35 years in audio, Ray was instrumental in launching BBC Radio 1Xtra and now runs his own independent production and events company. Excited to support The Radio Academy’s mission, Ray says:
"I’m thrilled and honoured to have been elected as a Trustee. I look forward to shaping the future of the audio industry alongside my esteemed colleagues, and can’t wait for it all to start!”
Nick Callaghan – Director of Sales, UK, Spotify
An accomplished media professional, Nick has held senior commercial roles at leading UK broadcasters and platforms. He also hosts a monthly show on a community based radio station, and collaborates with independent artists to create music based merchandise to help raise funds for various charities that are close to his heart. He says:
"It' s a huge honour to join The Radio Academy Board as a Trustee. Radio and community are both very important to me, and I can't wait to help this fantastic organisation through such an exciting time for the wider audio industry."
Phil Maguire OBE – Founding Chief Executive, Prison Radio Association
Returning to the Board as a co-opted Trustee, Phil is the founding Chief Executive of the Prison Radio Association, a pioneering organisation that uses audio to transform lives. He also leads Prison Radio International, a growing global movement harnessing audio for social good in criminal justice settings. Phil says:
“I’m honoured to continue as part of The Radio Academy’s leadership – now as a co-opted trustee – championing the power of voice, representation, and belonging in radio and audio.”

The Radio Academy extends its heartfelt thanks to departing Trustees for their contributions:
- Kiran Nandra, concluding her elected term.
- Dixi Stewart, stepping down after serving since 2019.
- Jonathan Arendt, a pivotal figure in The Radio Academy’s governance for over two decades.
- Phil Maguire, completing his elected three-year term and remaining as a co-opted Trustee.
