No sooner has the closing date for the Reelworld Radio Academy 30 under 30 closed and the ARIAS closing date for entries is nigh upon us, closing midnight tomorrow! More on the ARIAS further down.
As those of you who were at Radio Festival and the 30 under 30 launch night in June will testify, the energy and enthusiasm of people in and for our sector is amazing, from the legend that is Nicholas Parsons and our Fellows, to the new talent at places like podium.me, Radar Radio, Resonance FM and Soho Radio.
This has been evident too in entries to the Reelworld Radio Academy 30 under 30, we have received the most entries ever and the calibre is outstanding, good luck to the Judges choosing this years 30. Very difficult.
The Radio Academy is on a roll at the moment. We’ve extended our reach and membership into new audio areas, welcoming new Patrons - Mixcloud, audioBoom, Penguin Random House, acast and podium.me and we’re really looking forward to serving them and learning and sharing from their different experience, perspective and knowledge.
Whilst on the subject of new Patrons, can I just clarify something that has become a bit of an urban myth, if you qualify for ‘complimentary’ membership via your association or employment with a Patron, you MUST still register yourself to activate your membership. This is really important as your individual membership needs to be activated for you to enter initiatives like 30 under 30, get discounted tickets to Radio Festival and discounted entry to the ARIAS, plus your FREE ticket to the ARIAS show.
In other words Patrons provide you with the ‘complimentary membership’ - NOT automatic membership!
Finally, let me come back to the ARIAS. As most of you will be aware it closes at Midnight tomorrow for entries. Inevitably, as is human nature, many leave it until the last minute which is cool, that’s why we have deadlines. But sometimes it can be frustrating for those submitting when the entry platform throws its Teddy out due to high demand on the final day and your left waiting beyond a reasonable hour to try again. Inevitably this happens sometimes and we’ll be there to help and support, but it may be worth getting in a bit earlier if you can to avoid copious swearing and frustration when you should be in the pub.
Of the 23 categories this year, 2 are to be voted on by Members. They are Team of the Year and Person of the Year to recognise those that have made an outstanding contribution to UK audio and radio over the last 12 months. The Trustees of the Academy are finalising this years shortlists and then it will be over to you to decide your winners. We’ll be announcing the shortlists for these 2 categories shortly, so again, if you want to vote you’ll need to register to activate your Membership, if you’ve not done so already.
Bye for now!
