Boom Radio!

26 Apr 2021

Monday 26 April, 12.30pm - live stream on this website

Following the death of HRH Prince Philip, this event has been postponed to 26 April.

It was one of the most exciting radio launches of recent times, catching the attention of people all across the industry. Now join the bosses of Boom Radio to hear all about its inception, its development and its launch.

Boom Radio launched on Valentine's Day earlier this year - a radio station designed for Baby Boomers, aiming to capture the market for 60-75 year olds.  With new radio stations popping up all the time these days, what was so exciting about this one?  Well, it had two of Commercial Radio's most accomplished execs behind it, for starters.

They pulled together an exciting line-up of household radio names, persuading many to come out of retirement to broadcast again: Graham Dene, David Hamilton, Nicky Horne, Roger Day, Jenny Hanley, Les Ross, Esther Rantzen, Kid Jensen and more.  And after a boom of a launch, the station has taken the plunge and gone national on DAB+

Join David Lloyd and Phil Riley in conversation with former Controller of BBC Radio 2 Lesley Douglas, for what promises to be an insightful deep-dive into the strategy and practice of launching a new national commercial radio station (and in a pandemic, to boot).
