Boom Radio launched on Valentines Day 2021 - a radio station designed for Baby Boomers - hoping to capture the market for 60-75 year olds.
There was plenty of ground to cover, so Lesley Douglas (former Controller of BBC Radio 2) ably guided Boom Radio’s founders Phil Riley and David Lloyd through the hour-long session.
We heard about the brave decision to launch a brand-new station in the midst of a pandemic - and how broadcasting to DAB and streaming gives access to a potentially huge audience. Technology was key to creation of Boom Radio and its initial success - from enabling the best talent to present remotely, to enabling advertising to be sold against web streams long before the station even had its first RAJAR.
David and Phil also talked about the power of marketing and PR in the launch of BOOM, and good old-fashioned word of mouth, encouraging thousands to tune into the station and keep listening.
