Diversity

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at The Radio Academy

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) is part of The Radio Academy’s Values . We strive to be representative of the sector and the UK population in all that we do.

Representation in Radio Academy programming

In recent years, our aim has been to fulfil a minimum of 50:50:20 representation in our output: that is, an equal gender split and a minimum of 20% of people who are Black, Asian or from other minority ethnic backgrounds.

We have focused on achieving this in a number of key areas: the line-up of speakers at The Radio Academy Festival; the judges for the ARIAS; the judges for 30 Under 30; our board of Trustees.  Our representation data for these areas can be seen below.

This historical data is not based on self-identity, and from 2023 onwards we will be asking participants to fill out an anonymous monitoring form, so we can better capture how judges identify their own gender and ethnicity, and include other demographic factors as well.

As part of our on-going commitment to diversity, we plan to engage an external ED&I consultant to work with us from 2023 onwards, to challenge us and help us articulate our values and the ambitions for our work.  It is our expectation that this work will include setting minimum targets for other characteristics.
