11th May 2012
So this is it, the moment we've all been waiting for! Monday is the biggest night of the UK radio year, the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2012! As well as applauding the finest radio of the last 12 months, we're also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Awards and we're going to make it one hell of a party! We've got spectacular live performances lined up from Gary Barlow, Jessie J and Alexandra Burke, some wonderful guest presenters and host extraordinaire Chris Evans to guide us through it all! It's going to be a night to remember - see you there!
Follow Along At Home
Don't forget, if you aren't coming to the ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel, you can still follow all the action courtesy of our friends at Radio Today, who will be doing a live radio show from the Awards, including the announcement of all the winners direct from the stage. Radio Today's Stuart Clarkson and radio legend Pat Sharp will host a special audio webcast from the event, starting at 5pm on Monday 14th May via radiotoday.co.uk/live.
Why not record a good luck message for them to play from you or your station/group to your friends and colleagues who are nominated? Just post an Audioboo and tag it with #radiotodaylive, or email your audio to Radio Today. Then, if you're not going to the event, make sure you listen in from 5pm on the night.
Branches
Last week, we were so excited about announcing the new committee for the North East Branch, we left out Dave Nicholson MBE from Radio Tyneside! Sorry Dave, we're thrilled to have you on the team, but at least you get your own special mention this week! You can keep up to date with the North East branch through Facebook, as well as through the Branch page on our website.
The Scotland Branch have a very special event coming up. Presenter, programmer, Radio Academy Fellow and all round legend of Scottish radio, Jay Crawford will be in conversation at Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh on Thursday 24th May to talk about his life at the sharp end of radio for over 35 years. Hosting the night will be Radio Forth’s current early riser, Boogie. This'll be a cracker, so don't miss out. For more info and to register, see the website.
Last up this week, a new networking site specifically for UK radio people has just launched and it's free, so why not check it out at NBS Live? Just register and then start networking with other radio people who are, let's face it, our favourite kind of people!
