The Radio Academy

10th October 2014

This is it!

Doors open for Radio Festival 2014 on Monday and we could not be more excited! This year, the biggest event in UK radio is bigger and better than ever!

If you're attending the Festival, make sure you download the official Radio Festival 2014 App for your phone or tablet today! It has all sorts of useful information, including Programme details (no hard copy programmes this year), Speaker info, and a Delegates Community, as well as loads of other great features.

In our final announcements before the event gets under way, we revealed that BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Gilles Peterson will receive The PRS for Music Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music Radio and The Radio Academy Local & Regional Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Midlands broadcaster Jo Russell. Both presentations will be made on Tuesday evening as part of Michael Ball: The PPL Wrecking Ball Cabaret.

Completing this year's impressive line-up, Mel Greig, the Australian radio DJ, will be interviewed by broadcaster and journalist Daisy McAndrew on the Radio Festival stage. Mel will deliver a cautionary note about prank calls and what can be done to try and protect all involved, as well as prepare radio DJs to face adversity.

We are also thrilled to present Challenge Radio - an industry collaboration with talent from BBC and commercial, as well as student and community radio, all presenting shows to celebrate the radio medium, its achievements and its future. Produced as part of the Radio Festival, the station will broadcast from a dome located outside The Lowry, near Media City UK in Salford on Tuesday 14th October for 12 hours from 8am! Anneka Rice, ambassador of the aptly named pop-up, will be rounding up presenters and ensuring the station is a big hit. Anneka will also take to the mic, presenting her own show on the station.

Anneka said: "We've got loads of presenters collaborating for Challenge Radio, doing an eclectic mix of shows. My latest recruit is BBC Radio 2's Ken Bruce, who will come up to Manchester and present his show from the dome. There's something for everyone on the station, it's a real mix, you must tune-in!"

Follow Anneka's progress on twitter (@ChallengeRadio) throughout the day and over the weekend.

We'd like to say a huge thankyou to the small but perfectly-formed army of people who have worked tirelessly for many months to make Radio Festival 2014 a truly amazing event!

See you in Salford!
