The Radio Academy

24th October 2014

First up this week, a word from our Chairman, Ben Cooper:

"I just wanted to thank you for making this year's Radio Academy Festival the best I can remember. The quality of guests and standard of speakers I thought was fantastic. Thanks also go to Chris Burns, Paul Sylvester and the Festival Committee, as well as Gloria Abramoff and the Radio Academy team, Mandy, Riza, Caroline and Nella - the hard work, energy and determination to make this a Festival the industry could be proud of was greatly appreciated.

Which brings me to our next moment in the calendar, the Arqiva Hall of Fame Lunch. And this is where I would like to invite you to make your suggestions on who deserves to be inducted. The Hall of Fame is the UK radio industry’s tribute to those legendary voices who make, or have made, an outstanding contribution to the sound of British radio and to British cultural life. You can see a full list of all those already inducted on our website.

To nominate someone for the Hall of Fame, just email us with up to 500 words about the person you're nominating with the subject "Hall of Fame Nomination". The deadline for sending in your nominations is 5pm on Friday 31st October."

Radio Festival round-up

Wow! Turns out, that really was the BEST FESTIVAL EVER!

We will be putting the session audio up on the website very soon but, in the meantime, you can relieve those post-Festival withdrawal symptoms by feasting your eyes on loads of lovely photos on our flickr, and we'll be adding even more soon.

We're also giving you the chance to get your hands on our signed Iggy Pop-Up! The secret auction closes at 5pm TODAY, so get your bid in now for a unique memento of a wonderful event. For more details, just click here. And don't forget, you can enjoy Iggy's superb John Peel Lecture all over again. It's available to watch, to download and you can even get a transcript of the lecture - you'll find it all right here.

Still need more? Then why not hit the Challenge Radio website, where you'll find lots of goodies from our 12 hour Radio Festival pop-up station? Watch interviews with the presenters and the best bits of the 12 hours in 60 seconds, hear our favourite bits, and see some great photos from the day! Plus, there's a brilliant time-lapse of our dome going up. Enjoy!

In this week's RadioTalk, we're rummaging through the archives for more classic clips from the week in radio history with David Lloyd's Radio Moments!

This week, it's 6 years since the infamous 'Sachsgate' affair; the British Broadcasting Company was formed back in 1922; Radio City and Severn Sound first hit the airwaves; and Simon Bates said goodbye to Radio 1. Happy listening!
