The Radio Academy

22nd August 2014

There's just one week left to get your entry in for the TechCon Technical Excellence Award 2014, sponsored by Arqiva!

If you, your team, or your station have done something clever with technology and radio, we want to hear about it. It might be an innovative application of an established technology, the creation of a brand new product, or a project which far exceeds the everyday work of broadcast technologists. Now's the time to shout about it, and show us all at TechCon 2014!

For more info and to enter, click here. The closing date for entries is 5pm on Monday 1st September 2014, so you need to get your skates on!

Radio Festival Event Volunteers wanted!

Radio Festival needs YOU! We're looking for volunteers for the Festival. We need people to assist during various shifts from Sunday 12th October to Wednesday 15th October.

You need to be prepared to do a variety of tasks that may include running for the production and events teams; meeting and greeting guests, delegates, and VIPs; helping on registration; holding mics for Q&A in the auditoriums; and setting up areas for use, to name just a few.

We're unable to cover your travel or accommodation costs, but we will offer you the chance to sit in on one or two of the amazing sessions being produced this year. If you're available and would like to help out, please complete this form.

Radio Remembers

At this year’s Radio Festival we want, as always, to commemorate the lives of those friends and colleagues from the radio industry who have passed away since the last Festival (Oct 2013).

Do you know of someone who contributed to our industry, even in a very small way, or someone that you feel we should acknowledge from your station, group or office?

If so, please email us with the following information about them:

- Name
- Company
- Position
- Date of Birth - Date of Death
- 2 x photos minimum - (high-res jpg)
- A short biog on their career

If you have it, please also include a short audio/video piece (1-2 mins) for us to edit into our video tribute. Don't forget to give us your name and contact details too, in case further information is required. Thanks!

In this week’s RadioTalk, we take another foray into the week in radio history, courtesy of David Lloyd’s Radio Moments! This week, the first female announcer on the BBC; the launch of BBC Radio 1Xtra; Elvis leaves the building; and the unforgettable voice of Bill Mitchell. Enjoy!
