The Radio Academy

29th August 2014

Do you work in radio production? Done some great work in the last year? Then you'll be entering The Radio Production Awards 2014, right?

The RPAs honour the achievement of individuals (not teams) demonstrated by a body of work. So, the winners will be production individuals, not programmes, not presenters (unless they produce the shows), not radio stations and not production companies (unless entered for Indie of the Year).

If you're a documentary or feature maker, a sound designer, or a producer, whether it's of music, speech, or drama, this is your opportunity to shine!

For more info, including the full list of categories, and to enter, click here. The closing date for entries is 12 noon on Wednesday 17th September, so there's no time to lose!

Local & Regional Lifetime Achievement Award

The Local & Regional Lifetime Achievement Award looks to recognise and celebrate a broadcasting great from local and regional radio.

If you’d like to nominate a broadcaster to be considered for this honour, please email us with the name of the person and a few details about their career and achievements. You can see all the previous recipients on the website. Thanks!

(Love local? Don't forget, we're also looking for the best small stations around the country for this year's Nations & Regions Awards!)

TechCon Technical Excellence Award

This really is your last chance to enter the TechCon Technical Excellence Award 2014, sponsored by Arqiva!

Get your entry in by 5pm on Monday 1st September 2014 and astonish us all with the ingenious things you've been doing with technology and radio! For more info and to enter, click here.

Have your say

A few weeks ago, our Chairman Ben Cooper asked for your ideas about The Radio Academy, what you want it to be and do, and what you want for its future.

Thank you to everyone who responded - we greatly appreciate your time and thoughts.

If you haven't responded yet, we'd still love to hear from you, but you'll need to hurry. Email Ben with your thoughts by Monday 1st September and help to shape the future of your Radio Academy.

In this week’s RadioTalk, we unearth more golden nuggets from the week in radio history, courtesy of David Lloyd’s Radio Moments!

This week, Southern Sound and BBC Radio 5 both launched, later evolving into Heart and 5 live respectively; the short-lived Radio Durham closed down; Capital Radio got into hot water with the IBA; and we wish a very happy 60th birthday to Steve Wright. Happy listening!
