Sony Radio Academy Awards 2012

The Nominations for the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2012 will be announced by London’s Capital FM Breakfast Show hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon in a very special live webcast tomorrow (Friday 30th March) at 1.30pm at www.radioacademyawards.org.

There’s a test available on the website now for you to check you can receive the feed properly BEFORE the start of the webcast. The countdown clock will start at 1pm and the webcast will start promptly at 1.30pm.

Stations right across the UK are organising lunchtime events so everyone in their office can find out who’s been nominated, all at the same time – email us to let us know what you’re planning and we’ll give your team a shout out. Get the beers in the fridge, synchronise watches and put the mobiles on silent – you do not want to miss this!

If you can’t watch the webcast, don’t panic – those lovely folks at Radio Today will be tweeting the nominations as they’re announced and tomorrow’s Radio Academy Newsletter will also be a Nominations Special.

    The booking site for the unmissable Radio Fast Train is now open! It’s a free training day for radio professionals in independent production companies, freelancers, commercial and community radio, hosted by the BBC Academy on 7th February at their London headquarters, in partnership with Skillset, and produced in association with The Radio Academy, Radio Independents Group, RadioCentre, the Community Media Association and BECTU.     The free training day will focus on four themes: ideas, technology, skills and business. Sessions will range from creative thinking, pitching workshops, microphone techniques and location recording, live studio production, editorial values, social media, how to make apps and podcasting, to finance for freelancers and coaching one-to-ones. There will also be masterclasses from future radio to sports and drama, presented by industry professionals. Scott Mills from Radio 1 and Jane Garvey from Radio 4’s Woman’s hour and their producers will share their ideas on building successful creative partnerships.
    To qualify for a place you’ll need to work in the radio industry in the UK and have at least 2 production credits. This is a fantastic opportunity, so don’t miss out!

    The Radio Academy has today marked the launch of the 2012 Sony Radio Academy Awards with a new website – www.radioacademyawards.org – giving full details of the Award Categories and the terms and conditions of entry.

    2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the Sony Radio Academy Awards – the most prestigious awards in the radio industry’s calendar and the only event that brings the entire sector together to celebrate outstanding content and creativity – nationally, regionally and locally.

    This year, there are 34 Award Categories, each identifying a specific aspect of radio production and presentation and providing an opportunity for programmes, production teams, individuals and stations to be recognised.

    John Myers, CEO of The Radio Academy and Chairman of the Sony Radio Academy Awards Committee, said: “I am delighted to launch the 2012 Awards and look forward to seeing who will walk away with the most prestigious awards in the industry. Everyone wants to win a Sony.”

    The deadline for entries is Wednesday 8th February 2012 and the Nominations will be announced early in April.

    The Awards Ceremony will take place on Monday 14th May at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, where the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be revealed.

    Note to entrants: Submissions into either of the Breakfast Show of the Year categories and all of the Station of the Year categories will be required to submit output from either Thursday 24th November, Friday 25th November OR Monday 28th November 2011.
