30Under30 001

Last week, The Radio Academy published the inaugural 30 Under 30 list – and this week RadioTalk gives you the chance to meet some of them in a show hosted by, produced by and featuring 5 members of the list.

Hosting this special edition of RadioTalk is Charlene Guy – a presenter from BFBS who has spent the last 7 years travelling round the world with the army and embedded everywhere from Afghanistan to The Falklands.

Joining RadioTalk veterans Jimmy Buckland (Head of Strategy, UTV) and Carina Tillson (Head of Compliance and Regulatory Policy, Global Radio) is Jonathan Jacob (SPI Account Manager, First Radio Sales) who may be familiar to those who follow The Earshot Creative Review blog and podcast.

Find out how they heard the news, what they think makes a #30u30 and what advice they’d give to aspiring radio stars of the future.

This week we’re delighted to bring you a special one-on-one interview with the Controller of BBC Radio 4, Gwyneth Williams.

Trevor Dann caught up with Gwyneth earlier this week to find out how her first 9 months in the job have gone. They talked at length about the new schedule on R4 and the launch of 4Extra, the importance of digital and of getting the live schedule right.

Trevor also raised the recent news agenda – was Radio 4’s coverage of the News of the World and Amy Winehouse stories appropriate? They talked about the new model for independent commissioning and answered some questions from listeners via twitter – about why there’s no Today programme on Sunday, what’s the future of R4 LW and why is there such variation in the quality of radio drama on 4.

As with every edition, we ended the discussion by asking what Gwyneth has been listening to (the World Service, the Proms on R3 and the Reith Lectures).

This week’s RadioTalk is all about the recently launched UK RadioPlayer which last week reported its first figures.

Trevor Dann is joined in the RadioTalk studio by RadioPlayer’s Managing Director Michael Hill, and Jazz FM’s Programme Controller Mike Vitti to discuss how the project is going.

We also have contributions from Darren Webb, Station Manager of University Radio York and Bruce Mitchell, Head of Digital for Bauer Radio’s London Stations, voices his concerns about the project.

This week, Mike Vitti has been listening to Colourful Radio, and Michael Hill has been sampling Jack FM.
