RadioTalk this week looks at the role of the Producer in music radio with two of the best. Helen Thomas is the multi-award winning Executive Producer of The Chris Evans Breakfast Show. Richard Steel, the Executive Producer of Dave and Lisa at Capital FM, is also at the top of his game but works within a commercial radio framework.

Hear how they go about their daily life, run their teams, think about their shows and how preparation is everything. Most of all, they tell us why being a radio producer is the best job in the world and what you need to do if you want to get their job someday.

Plus, we have another wonderful instalment of David Lloyd’s Radio Moments. It’s a not to miss episode this week with audio that John hoped had long been lost!

This week sees the launch of a fantastic new series of interviews with Radio Academy Fellows. For the very first edition, Lisa Kerr is joined by Bauer Radio’s DAB Radio Director Grae Allen.

Grae reminisces about his first day at Radio Clyde and tells us why he thinks digital radio is well placed to replace analogue, what he thinks the odds are of the switch-over happening in the next decade and, after 34 years in the industry, what it is that’s made him stay.

Tuesday 1st May, 6pm at the University of Sunderland
For anyone in the North East looking to break into radio, this is an event not to be missed!

Tuesday 1st May | 5.30 for 6.00 | Prospect Building, University of Sunderland, SR6 0DD

Whenever you ask people who work in radio about how they got where they are, you’ll find some spent years entertaining patients on hospital radio while others did wacky things on student radio (some did both!). Some of them found paid work in this profession quickly and others only made it after a long wait, doing other things. Some will have specifically studied radio, while others haven’t.
Every story is different and it seems there’s no one single route that everyone follows.

But are there secrets we can learn? Is it purely about talent and hard work or do you just have to be in the right place at the right time?

We’ve assembled a panel from different disciplines across the industry and they definitely have at least one thing in common; they are all media graduates from the University of Sunderland.

Collectively, they work with some of the biggest brands in radio and all have stories to share and tips to offer.

For anyone looking to break into radio, this is an event not to be missed!

This week we’re tackling the subject of visualising radio so it made sense that the podcast should be in vision too.

Folder Media’s Matt Deegan hosts the podcast with guests Adam Heyhurst (Visualisation Producer, Radio 1), Rich Clarke (Presenter at Capital FM and the Vodafone Big Top 40) and Julian Fisher (Director of Media Output, Markettiers4dc).

The video was produced by Adam Mitchenhall and Iain Holding at Markettiers4dc and the imaging was provided by On The Sly.

As always, it features David Lloyd’s Radio Moments – but this time, in vision!

Comments always welcome. Also available via iTunes.
