DAB+: The New Audio Standard For DAB

DAB+ is now through the ETSI process. As Vice-Chairman of the WorldDMB Technical Committee, Simon Mason is well placed to help us discover what DAB+ is and how it works. This guide to DAB+ will provide a technical overview of the packet structure of the DAB+ system, present performance measurements of the standard versus MPEG1 Layer 2 performance, provide examples of multiplex configurations and talk through additional data services which could be carried alongside an AAC audio stream.

Enhancing Radio Services With Data

Over the past few years we have seen broadcasters launch visual radio services, Electronic Programme Guides, DABText and traffic & travel data services, to name but a few. Over the course of this session we’ll find out from the BBC and commercial radio what their future plans are for enhancing the radio experience. We’ll also hear from a manufacturer about the issues they face in supporting these new and innovative services in the low-cost digital radio of the future.

Techcon product of the year 2007

Following the success of the TechCon Product of the Year last year, it’s back once again to challenge the industry to find the TechCon Product of the Year 2007. The winner will have some or all of the following attributes:

  • Money-saving
  • Value for money
  • Ease of use
  • Wide appeal
  • Wide application

Any product intended for use in the radio industry is eligible and there is nothing to say that the product need necessarily be either new or fancy. Everyday products might win the award, such as a particularly easy-to-wire jack or XLR, equally an indestructible pair of headphones might well win against a more sophisticated or altogether complex product such as a software application or an audio processor.

Congratulations to the following who will be demonstratign their product in a shoot-out session at TechCon on Monday July 9th. The ultimate winner will be decided by the delegates and presented with this unique award.
