The Director General for the BBC, Mark Thompson will be appearing as a keynote speaker at this year’s Radio Festival, which is fast becoming a landmark moment in the broadcasting calendar.

The Director General’s Radio Festival speech is likely to cover hot topics currently simmering in the industry such as the implications on programmes of the BBC’s 2010 license settlement, the next Communications Act and the BBC’s Delivering Quality First (DQF) programme.

The Radio Festival gives members of the professional broadcasting industry the platform to discuss and debate the issues that are currently affecting the sector. Some of the industry’s most influential people are attending this year. The Festival is being hosted by Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie and with some keynote appearances, such as ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris confirmed, this year’s Festival will be another unmissable event.

John Myers, Chief Executive of The Radio Academy, said: “This year’s Festival promises to be the place to debate the important issues facing our industry and hear from the top people who will set the tone and policies influencing programme makers.

The Director General of the BBC is the most important person in UK broadcasting and I am looking forward to hearing what he has to say about the future landscape of the sector.”
