Friday 22nd June 2012, 11am-4pm
Hackney Picturehouse, 270 Mare Street, London E8 1HE
We held a very special Radio Academy Masterclass as part of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s Academy which hit Hackney throughout June. We had a fantastic line-up at the Masterclass, giving invaluable advice and insights to help attendees build their radio skills.
Hackney Masterclass Audio Competition
As part of the Masterclass, The Radio Academy & BBC Radio 1 teamed up to give one lucky attendee the chance to do a week’s work experience at BBC Radio 1 and 1xtra.
The challenge was to create a one minute piece of audio that told the story of their life in 2012. It could be about the Hackney Weekend, the next seven days, or something else entirely – the most important thing was that entries should tell a great story, bringing it to life and generating standout content.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a WINNER! Siobhan Rogers attended the Hackney Masterclass and her entry, a one minute piece of audio telling the story of her life in 2012, was judged to be the best, so she’s won herself a week’s work experience at BBC Radio 1 and 1xtra!
A word from our winner:
“Hi, I’m Siobhan – a 21 year old graduate from Northamptonshire. I graduated from Kent University this summer with a degree in English Literature and Drama. It was at University that I first became obsessed with radio after joining the local student and community radio station CSRFM. The station provided me with so many invaluable opportunities: presenting and producing regular shows as well as assisting in outside broadcasts and interviewing the likes of Kids In Glass Houses and The Wombats. However, my main role at the station was prodder for Ryan and Jeremy’s Friday Brunch which was later moved to Friday Drivetime. It was also through CSRFM that I found out about the Masterclass – so I have A LOT to thank them for. My ultimate ambition? To be a producer for Radio 1 of course!“
Congratulations Siobhan, we hope you have a great time and learn loads!
