  • The University
    Sunderland University is one of the UK's leading centres of higher education and training in the media industries. September will see the university launching Utopia, Sunderland's new full-time FM radio station, based in the newly named David Puttnam Media Centre.
  • The Facilities
    Sunderland is home to some of the country's leading radio and journalism academics and has outstanding facilities - including four main studios, edit and production suites, and a full broadcast newsroom.

Scene setter: Brian Lister

Brian is a senior radio industry consultant, and a Visiting Lecturer in Radio Management at The University of Sunderland. He's one of the biggest names in Radio in the North East and has probably hired more people in the North East radio industry than anyone else!

Marketing your station in competitive times: Sue Timson

During a 20 year career in media sales and marketing Sue amassed a wide range of experience as both a Senior Manager and Board Director. Sue's previous positions include Sales Director at Radio City in Liverpool, Managing Director of Viking Radio in Yorkshire, and Group Sales Director for Bauer Radio.

Music Programming: Mark Chivers

Mark is Deputy Head of Music for the UKRD group. He's been scheduling great tunes for twenty years, so he knows a thing or two about how the right song can get and keep listeners.
