Martin Campbell

Martin Campbell is Chief Adviser, Radio, for broadcasting regulator Ofcom. He has been in commercial radio for 35 years, both in front of the microphone and in station management.


Martin joined Ofcom's predecessor the Radio Authority as Director of Programming and Advertising in August 1998 after three years as Managing Editor of Talk Radio, the UK’s sole national commercial speech station.

He was Head of Talks at BRMB in Birmingham, and Head of Features at Radio Trent in Nottingham, where he fronted daily phone-ins, music shows and news programmes, having been trained as a journalist and having worked in newspapers for eight years before entering radio. He was Programme Director for the Allied Radio Group of stations in the 90s.

He also has a training background, having been Head of News at the original National Broadcasting School in Soho, and Principal Lecturer at the Post-Graduate Broadcast Journalism Course in Cornwall. He is a regular trainer of news editors from around the world at Radio Nederlands in Hilversum.
