Get Involved With Us

If you work in any sector of the radio industry, have skills and experience that you’d like to share, and could give up just an hour or two of your spare time for those who would really value it, then The Radio Academy would love to hear from you.

Our existing volunteers say they’ve gained a huge amount both personally and professionally.

We know how busy life can get, so we have a number of ways that you can get involved. Even a few hours of your time can make a huge difference.

Events

Could you help us plan and organise our events?

We are always looking for enthusiastic committee members to help us flesh out our events programme with fantastic guests and great ideas. Take a look at our events pages, and if your particular area of interest maps on to one of our events, then we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for people to help us:

greg
  • produce sessions
  • book guests
  • source venues
  • secure sponsorship
  • publicise our events outside the Academy family

To get involved with any of our events please email our Events account.

Masterclasses

Could you share your skills and experience with the next generation?

richard

We run regular Masterclass training events across the country, but they couldn’t happen without the help of volunteers.

From the committee who will help source a venue, speakers and attendees, to the speakers who give up an hour of their time to talk about their particular area of expertise, to the volunteers who help staff the event – we couldn’t reach out to hundreds of young people each year without you.

Our Masterclass programme covers all aspects of the radio industry, to widen eyes and career prospects, and to make sure that the next generation are educated and informed about the whole industry, and not just one sector.

To get involved with our Masterclass programme, please email Caroline.

Branches

Could you get involved locally?

helping

Our regional Branches perform an incredibly valuable service, drawing those of common interest and employment together, for the health and strength of local broadcasting. It only takes one enthusiastic individual to kick start things locally, and it’s very much appreciated by the local community!

Ideally, we ask our branches to host one Masterclass, to host their local presentation evenings for the Nations & Regions Awards (a preliminary round to the Sony Radio Academy Station of the Year (under 300,000) Award), run a small number of socials, and to produce one podcast for national distribution.

To get involved with your local branch, please email the relevant branch chair (see Branches section).

It goes without saying that all of the above look fantastic on a CV, but our volunteers tell us that it's meeting new people, learning new things, and – most of all – the feeling of achievement that make it truly worthwhile.
